Apparently, the Hypoluxo National Scrub Area is a national reserve literally right across from my house. I’ve passed it driving home every day and always thought it would be interesting to check it out. Michele and I ventured out into the brush area around Golden Hour on the first day of the year, and it was GORGEOUS out. We didn’t get to go as far back as we wanted, because the sun was setting, but we made it far enough to try to find gopher turtles.
I’ve been loving the Sigma 35mm lens more and more the more I use it. It’s slowly replacing my 50mm as my most valuable lens ever. It’s insanely sharp and doesn’t have any focusing issues (there’s a weird quirk with the Sigma 35 where they tend to have some issues with autofocusing).
We caught the lighting at the PERFECT time and I played a bit with shooting directly into the sun to try to catch some of those awesome lens flares. I will definitely be checking this place out again.
